What is Engineering?

Middle School Career Education with Authentic Stories

STEM education has been in the forefront of educators, industry, and policy makers minds for several. The U.S. still lacks many STEM professionals, and particularly is lacking in engineers. Getting students to go from adolescents to having an interest in engineering is a challenge.  There are a lot of stigmas surrounding engineering careers including who can be an engineer, that it's hard to become an engineer, and what the heck an engineer actually does.

This video series is sharing the real stories of a variety of engineers, their paths to employment, and how they are breaking the stereotypes of what and who an engineer is. Integrated into a career lesson, this program is being used as social science research project to discover the best ways to tell STEM career stories.
